FOREST at Biopolymers & Sustainable composites seminar

On the 1st and 2nd of March 2023 in Valencia, our partner and coordinator AIMPLAS organized a Biopolymers & Sustainable composites seminar.

The aim of the seminar was to promote discussion on new challenges and opportunities in bioplastics and sustainable biocomposites. The production of bioplastics is expected to have tripled by 2026 due to the industry's recent rapid growth. Today, there are environmentally friendly alternatives for certain uses, strengthening creative approaches to waste recovery—both organic and synthetic. By converting this waste into new raw materials, the circular economy model in its truest sense will be promoted.

The Seminar was organized around the following thematic sessions:

✓ Innovations in bioplastic materials.

✓ Success stories of leading companies.

✓ Standardization and certification.

✓ Environmental impact of bioplastics in open environments.

Various speakers from AIMPLAS have moderated blocks Bioplastics and Bioeconomy with Mrs Elena Domínguez presenting on “Bioplastics. A Significant Contribution to the European Union’s Ambitious Climate Goals”. The second block moderated was Standardisation and Certification with Mrs. Johana Carolina Andrade Chapal speaking on the topic of “Different end-of-life options for biodegradable bioplastics”

One of the final activities of this two-day seminar was a visit to AIMPLAS facilities.

FOREST Project poster designed by our partners FENIX TNT was also on display during the seminar - you can download it in our Documents section by clicking the button below.
