New FOREST Paper Published in Peer-reviewed Journal
We are delighted to share that Gideon Abels and his research team have published a groundbreaking article in the Royal Society of Chemistry.
This publication is the result of a close collaboration between Fraunhofer IFAM and Bitrez as part of the FOREST project. The article, titled "Introduction of the First Commercial Biobased Benzoxazines for the Manufacturing of Fibre Reinforced Polymers", presents their work on the development of new, eco-friendly materials, with an emphasis on improving the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of biobased resins.
The biobased benzoxazines featured in this research offer an alternative to traditional petrochemical-based materials, while retaining excellent thermomechanical properties and inherent flame retardancy. This makes them highly suitable for lightweight applications in sectors like transportation, which require both durability and energy efficiency.
The research demonstrates how these materials can meet the growing industrial demand in a sustainable and resource-efficient manner. This advancement aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), contributing to a more sustainable future for transportation and energy systems.
